Lessons Learnt: The right storage for non-graded comics

Comic Storage In Use

When I started to decide to collect comics again... back in 2019, maybe even 2020... I just started to buy some comics. After a short time I figured out, that keeping comics in paper boxes is not the best thing to do, and stacking these can become quiet, well dangerous.

So I decided to look out for some ways on how to store my comics, and since my better half does not like bulky looking things, I search for something "nice looking". It didn't take to long and I found these wonderful looking wooden boxes on Etsy and also on Amazon.

These boxes are advertised as "Big Fudge Comic Book Storage with Comic Book Holder Display!" and with a star rating of 3.8. Now, while writing this article, it is rated with 3 stars, which seems to be more reasonable, whereby I'd rate them with 1 star at most. The reason for the low rating is mainly caused by the instability of these boxes. They are just made to look good and not to be used for comics.

After this experience, I decided to do some research and found several YouTube videos with different ideas and ways on how to store comics. The solution I tried next was rated 5 stars on Amazon and was distributed by BCW, a company I know by now, is quiet large in the "comic-collectors-world". BCW distributes different sizes of their containers. I decided to go with the shorter bin "Short Comic BIN - Plastic - Black" and was not disappointed with this decision.

The box is robust, can be stacked (as long as you use the same type and size), and can hold a good amount of comics (depending on what you "wrap" your comics in). By now, I have over 15 of these boxes, nicely stacked in the corner of my room, and I can only highly recommend these boxes. I should also mention, when it comes to my graded comics, I use the same storage. Well, not exactly the same same, but the version for graded comic bins (named "Short Graded Comic BIN - Plastic - Black"). So it's the same company and the same look (just a little wider).

Summarized I can say that it didn't take me to long to find a suitable solution for me. I cannot say anything about the larger BCW bins - I believe they are double the length of the short once. I just don't have the space for these huge boxes. Hope this insight helps to find the right solution for others, please let me know if there are any other storage solutions that should be considered and maybe I will try these out.
